This exhibition, on display at the Esposende Municipal Museum, is part of the celebrations of the Municipal Museum's 30th anniversary and recreates the atmosphere that existed around a century ago in this space of the old Theatre-Club building, where the Espozendense Assembly met, a select group of Esposendenses, formally constituted, with defined statutes, who got together for recreational and leisure purposes.

Through the wide range of objects and pieces on display, visitors will be able to understand what life was like in the Sala dos Azulejos, with mannequins dressed to the nines, its century-old piano and snooker, as well as other furniture and various artefacts, such as grafonolas, crockery, walking sticks, bowler hats and top hats, women's artefacts, documents and newspapers from the time.

Esposende Town Council, as coordinator of the Esposende Nautical Station, has launched the 2024 Nautical Agenda.

The aim is for local residents and national and foreign visitors to have the opportunity to find out about the range of nautical events taking place in Esposende.

This action is part of the Action Plan for the Sustainability, Growth and Competitiveness of Tourism in Esposende - 2023_2027, and the Esposende Nautical Station Action Plan 2023_2025.

Timeless Music Cycle

This project was born out of a shared love for the saz and folk music of Anatolia, that of the aşık, poet-songwriters who express the feelings and revolts of the people, that of the Alévis, for whom the saz is a sacred instrument, the uzun hava - laments with a free rhythm or dancing melodies.

The ensemble, made up of four musicians, offers a female expression of these Anatolian songs in their cultural and linguistic diversity (their repertoire is based on Turkish, Kurdish, Zaza, Armenian, Laze, etc. heritage), reflecting the richness of each person's journey.

They sing, in the style of aşık, songs that are expressed loud and clear, without fear. The strings of the instruments and the voice vibrate with the intensity of these poems. Each voice with its particular timbre is in turn a soloist or piece of an architecture made up of polyphony and subtle arrangements that include the saz (Anatolian lutes), percussion and the accordion, a European instrument whose sound here seems to come from the mountains of Anatolia or the plains of Mesopotamia. Sometimes they even resonate in unison to take words and emotions to the heavens.

The ensemble thus seeks to make heard the often inaudible voices of women, whose suffering is reflected in several of these songs.

They also sing the oriental liturgies of the different religions present in Anatolia, namely through the texts of great ancient mystical poets such as Yunus Emre (13th century), Pir Sultan Abdal (15th century), Dedemoglu (late 17th-18th century), Davut Sulari and Kul Ahmet (20th century).

It's an interesting syncretism between these four musicians. Two Europeans who lived in Turkey and two of Anatolian origin who grew up in France thus find themselves on a common quest, made up of openness, spontaneity and generosity.

The main aim of the "Summer by Your Hand" initiative is to promote handicrafts and endogenous agri-food products in the module located in Esposende's riverside area.

Part of the ESlocal programme, the aim is to give visibility to "our" creativity between June and September, the months with the highest influx of visitors.

From 13 to 19 August, another joint fair will also be held on the Esposende riverfront, with the participation of various exhibitors with woodwork, embroidery, crochet, macramé, fabric painting, cold porcelain articles, candles, recycled articles and handmade jewellery, among others.
